Merging authority records

Search


1 Go to More > Authorities (on the top of the page)



2. Select the type of search (e.g. main heading a$only, all headings, the entire record)

Koha default settings only search in the main headings « a » (example : 100a – author, 110a – corporate author)


Tips: Access your record before.


Author’s full name (person or Corporate) are often split between subfields.

Example:
100 $a = Canada
100 $b = Commission of (….) Canadian Officials (…)

In this case, it is important to extend the search to « Search all headings » to include results with «Commission of (…) Canadian Officials (…).»



Authority records merge


1 Find the record to merge, click on « Action » on the right-hand side and select : « Merge


2. Find the second record to merge, click on « Action » on the right-hand side and select : « Merge »


Note : Koha only allows you to merge 2 authority records at the time. If you need to merge more than 2 records, you will need to repeat these steps for each additional records.


3. Choose the reference record (main record).


4. Click on next

5. Select each MARC fields to include in the final record.


Use the tab to navigate between the 2 records and select the best MARC field descriptions.

6. Verify the content of the future record (on the right-hand side)


7. Click on « Merge
